This sculptural table is sculpted in solid hardwoods. The maple top is hand and power tool shaped. It tapers on the ends both in width and thickness, and has a rounded profiled edge. The maple is bleached to a whiter, lighter tone and finished with a durable polyurethane. The base is laminate bent walnut, hand shaped with a spokeshave, and joined solidly with epoxy and metal reinforcements. Then the walnut is dyed black, rubbed back, and finished with a all natural oil and wax finish. The two parts are assembled to create a unique entry or display table.

Dean Pulver

"Carving is: silence, control, a search for form, texture, a trace of man's hand, a record of the creative process, a moment frozen in time."

One of Dean Pulver's deepest interests is appropriating the design aesthetics of various cultures. Most recently, he's been involved in designing and fabricating furniture whose spirit reflects that of primitive art. Pulver admires the innocence and honesty within this work and hopes to speak in a similar voice.

Complicated stack lamination and brick laying determine the construction of Pulver's furniture. After using a band saw and power carvers to rough out the forms, he hand carves with traditional tools to refine the images and design. The finished creations are elegant works of art with a striking presence and vitality.
