"Tip-Top Semainier"

In the artist's home, horizontal surfaces always seem to be covered with stuff. In frustration he once jokingly sketched a curved cabinet with a sloping top. Several crowd-pleasing variations have followed, including this semainier, or seven-drawer dresser. The self-cleaning feature assures that the top will never be cluttered! For Steven White, the fascination of his work is the dual disciplines of design and construction, coupled with a lifelong affinity for wood. His designs are contemporary and have evolved into a style that uses the interplay of gentle curves to form unique and elegant compositions.

White's pieces are built with solid wood and traditional joinery, with the intention that they will increase in value over generations.

Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, White has for decades drifted art-ward, finding that although math and structural considerations have great uses in furniture design, his numerous art and design classes have given him a great appreciation for aesthetics.
