The intention behind the work of John Kingsley is soundly rooted in the function of furniture. He prefers to design his work three-dimensionally, often playing with and rearranging parts and off-cuts as inspirations for new ideas. The ideas are then drawn to scale to work out all of the details and proportions. Kingsley works with the finest woods available, including mahogany, ash, bubinga, and maple.

John Kingsley's studio is full of both new and old equipment that is tuned to perfection. In making complex furniture he relies on his machinery to perform much like a painter relies on his brushes to convey his images. The artist's technical and design skills, combined with his superior equipment, help to make furniture of the highest possible quality.
