Believing that light can transform the ordinary, Caroline Jasper searches it out and strives to capture its properties. Its ability to beautify the commonplace is the inspiration behind all of her work.
Jasper begins each landscape painting by laying down a ground of bright red. She then applies bright white highlights and darkest shadows. Slowly she adds the greens and blues of land and sky colors separately allowing bits of red to show between brush marks. The finished paintings are noted for their startling visual effects and convincing re-creations of observed light.
