Deborah T. Colter
"Through my work I look to create an exciting visual balance of energy, emotion, color, and texture.
"
For painter Deborah T. Colter, the subconscious work of creating a painting is as important as the brushstrokes and composition. Trusting in her inner thoughts as they reveal themselves in the act of creating, Colter allows the subconscious interface of surfaces to weave its way through a balance of stability and uncertainty.
In her work, moments of thought are captured purely through a visual language; her goal is to create pieces
that are refreshing and unique. Her marks often will reflect architectural landscapes, roads, maps, repeated patterns, or colors as if seen from above or as recalled from within, a sort of visual record book of the mind.
Deborah T. Colter received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI.
