Edge and contrast are hallmarks of Jodi Rae Brownstein's jewelry designs. She prefers the atypical and likes to mix her techniques and designs, even within a single piece.
Brownstein honed her skills and learned additional advanced techniques studying with an international faculty of jewelry makers in Florence, Italy. She mastered granulation and mokume gane, stamping, chasing, forging and stone setting. She uses metals such as sterling silver, bimetal, 18K and 22K gold, often fusing them to semi-precious stones. The combinations give her work its strong contrast in shape, texture and colors.
Inspiration for her bracelets, earrings, rings and pendants come from many sources. But rather than actively seeking it, Brownstein prefers to wait and let it come to her. Everyday travels and images spark her creativity - the fine detail of an antique doorknocker, a leaf on the sidewalk. They all contribute to her ultimate designs.
