"I love heavy silver, enigmatic designs, and awakening the inner peacock in men. My work is often complex and sculptural, and it frequently appeals to men who don't wear jewelry."
Southern California jewelry artist Allan Mason specializes in sterling cuff bracelets for both men and women. He is especially intrigued with asymmetrical designs, but has found much to explore in more symmetrical forms as well.
Most of Mason's designs are created with the 500 steel hand stamps he has made. These stamps can be combined in many ways to create his unique patterns and textures. Almost all of his work is completely hand fabricated, one at a time. He uses the multi-level overlay technique frequently, and occasionally adds elements of gold or copper. In recent years he has discovered a love of riveting.
Mostly self-taught, Mason began by fixing and modifying pieces from his Indian jewelry collection. This led to the realization that he had lots of his own ideas. With the encouragement of a Navajo silversmith friend, he started to make his own stamps and forge his own direction.
