Nathalie Guez

"Chairs explore all dimensions of a person. They project our identity, express our tastes and assert our place in the world. To highlight an essential detail of a human being, while respecting his culture, and without diminishing the importance of comfort-- That is my art! "

If the original art of Nathalie Guez transcribes the amusing perspective with which she perceives life, the elegance of her works reveals her love and respect for human beings and the world. Her symbolic approach gives her work its power of evocation and leaves it open to all interpretations.

For Guez, ideas for her work come from many sources. Some represent designs that she has woken up seeing and knows she must realize. Other ideas come from commissions?as Guez is working, surplus ideas arrive and she explores as many angles as possible. The artist often begins by drawing a design on life-size paper, then creates patterns for each piece of the design. Her work is in constant reinvention.

Trained as an architect, Nathalie Guez began creating furniture as a hobby, learning techniques from an Israeli sculptor while working in an architecture office in Israel. Now working in Montreal, Guez has designed her own collection of chairs and armchairs. Her work has been exhibited at SOFA New York and Art Palm Beach in 2012, and SOFA Chicago and Santa Fe in 2011. Based on her artistic skills, Guez was chosen to design sculptural lines for American furniture manufacturers.
