"I follow the sophisticated, and sometimes eluding, laws of simplicity. I am inspired by the earth and the people upon it. I choose to represent nature in many ways and to convey the relationships between myself and my world: the patterns of wood grains, reeds at the river's edge, ripples on the surface of the water--all images that are reflected in the organic patterns of shibori."
The Michael Kane Studio is an ever-evolving shibori studio, in business for over 25 years, concentrating on hand-dyeing, discharging, and air-brushing 100% silk using the ancient techniques of shibori.
Each work is hand-manipulated using pipes, board clamps, and stitch resist methods. Kane often adds other techniques to achieve his goals, and constructions may be pieced, layered, or appliqued
Michael Kane is self-taught with a passion for fiber. His 25 year studio rests on a wildlife habitat.
