Karen Crocker

"My work is peaceful yet evocative. With each piece, I enjoy allowing my viewer to form an emotional bond of time and place."

Painter Karen Crocker grew up in the peaceful seaside of Cape Cod and loves to capture the seasonal and hourly changes of color and light. Her style is impressionistic and atmospheric. Using soothing colors and simple compositions, the artist follows the ever-changing views of land and ocean.

Crocker applies layers of oil paint to canvas to produce each image, allowing the each layer to dry before reworking. Changing the color and consistancy of the paint with each layer creates texture and depth. The artist will often rework a canvas four or five times, and finishes each painting with a high gloss varnish.

Karen Crocker studied fine arts at the University of Maine. Working under a clothing designer, artist, and painter for 7 years further developed her sense of color, and gave her the tools to work professionally as a painter.
