ChiaChien Tsai

"I embrace and recreate the grace of nature in unique, contemporary jewelry, combining historical inspiration and modern abstraction into sensational wearable forms. "

ChiaChien Tsai's jewelry explores the human fascination with nature. Her lace-like patterns are inspired by Ginkgo Biloba and incorporate abstracted imagery of gametes. Her work reinforces our strong bond to the natural world, and is constructed from both sharp, dynamic masculine forms and smooth, free-flowing feminine forms.

The Art Nouveau movement has influenced Tsai's perspective on the craft of metalworking. She combines traditional and modern jewelry making techniques such as fabrication, lost wax casting, and gem setting to create her delicate, meticulous work.

ChiaChien Tsai graduated from OCAD University with a BA in Material Art and Design specializing in jewelry. Currently, she is a goldsmith artist working and teaching at Jewel Envy, a cooperative studio located in downtown Toronto. She frequently participates in shows and exhibitions across Canada.
