Allison Kallaway

"My design process is like a story, weaving together all of the joys and challenges of my life experiences. Each piece takes a journey of its own. Simply classic elements combine with the more daring components. I carefully craft each piece of jewelry with my own hands, combining the metal and bold form into one beautiful collaboration. "

"Modern Industrial Jewelry" is how Allison Kallaway describes her work. Her designs are slow crafted and reflect the inspiration she's gathered from exploring the world. Kallaway brings expression to the myriad African, European, and fantasy design elements that influence her unique style. She finds daily inspiration in Montana's lower Flathead Valley, where she works and lives.

Kallaway fabricates each piece of jewelry using silver and gold sheet, wire, and tubing. Her design process very often starts by pulling out her collection of materials, bypassing the sketchbook. She expertly juxtaposes bold forms and textured metal to achieve a modern industrial vibe. The result is wearable artwork that is unexpected and timeless.

Allison began silversmithing in high school and college. She earned her BA in art and spent the next fourteen years traveling overseas. For an artist whose medium is jewelry, creating on the road rather than in a traditional studio can be challenging. In 2006, she returned to the US and worked in a goldsmithing studio, where she learned the fine jewelry skills to set up her own studio.
