Anne Leuck

"As a gal who wears her heart on her sleeve, I cannot help but create art in the same way. Focusing on the joyful moments in life, I paint images inspired by my beloved adopted pets, nature, dreams, travel, and my daily biographical sketchbooks. "

Working out of her Chicago storefront studio, Anne Leuck celebrates life with paint. Her simplified forms, paired with sophisticated compositions and bold color palettes, can best be described as a mix of contemporary folk and urban pop art. As a pet adoption advocate, Leuck uses her animal-themed art to encourage support of animal welfare and shelter organizations.

She paints black compositions on primed wood and canvas, then applies saturated acrylic hues, often working on several paintings at a time--in a sense, pollinating each one with the color on her brush. These color fields are then re-lined with black, bringing the composition back into focus. The majority of her wood paintings are created on recycled high-grade ply.

Leuck went to art school, focusing in sculpture, but is self-taught in painting, which has retained her childhood aesthetic, surely influenced by many Sunday mornings staring at the stained glass windows in a Catholic church. Her color sense was further developed by mixing her own frosting colors while baking cutout cookies with her mother. Many of those colors still make up her palette.
