Brian R. Jones
Brian Jones's current work lies in his interest in the investigation of the transformative character of memories. A remembrance of a jar, cup, and plate serves as the point of departure for contemplation of form, color, and tone. The nature of how a pot reveals itself over time to an audience is the long echo of that initial reverie. The pot is both a reservoir and an initiator of memories.
Employing throwing and hand-building techniques, Jones makes his work with earthenware clay. The surface is enhanced with terra sigilatta, slip, and glaze. All of his work is fired in an electric kiln to cone 03.
I earned my M.F.A. in 2007 from Southern Methodist University. From 2003-2005 I was the studio assistant for Virginia-based studio potter Silvie Granatelli.
