Deb Fleck-Stabley has been exploring the medium of clay for over 30 years. She shares her home/studio, in the woods of Pennsylvania, with artist-husband, Dave, her children, and pets. Her natural surroundings and fascination with plant and animal life provide endless inspiration for this body of work.
The artist hand builds each of her ceramic pieces, decorates them with underglazes and glazes, and fires them at least twice in an oxidation kiln. Imagery is repeated, but no two pieces are exactly alike.
Fleck-Stabley's experience with clay began as an undergraduate while taking electives towards her Art Education degree, which she earned in 1980 from Millersville University in Pennsylvania. She continued exploring the medium of clay in graduate school and then formed Creative Clay Works in 1984, with her husband, David. In creating work for galleries, participating in juried shows and events, and through teaching in a variety of workshop settings, she has learned many techniques and processes using clay.
