Ed Byers and Holden McCurry

"Using earthenware clay, we are striving to make narrative representations that have a unique, human story to tell--usually of peace and hope--that can help connect to others through our differences."

Ed Byers and Holden McCurry have been working as a studio team in ceramics since 2003. Their work is created primarily through a collaborative process that allows for the development of one-of-a-kind sculptures. Their forms are architectural, organic, and figurative, all expressing beauty, texture, color, and symbolic meaning.

Their sculptures are hand built using earthenware slabs and coils as well as extruded, pressed, and pinched forms, sometimes combined with wood or steel. All ceramic pieces are fired multiple times in electric kilns. Finishes include oxide washes, terra sigillata, slips, underglazes, and custom glazes.

Both Byers and McCurry are graduates of Auburn University in Auburn, AL, and both have completed post-graduate studies in Asheville, NC; Santa Fe, NM; and Penland, NC.
