Erin Wilson creates quilts that reflect her urban environment in Brooklyn, NY. She works intuitively, inspired by architecture, a chance grouping of colors on the fabric shelf, her imagination.
The process begins with color. Wilson dyes fabric without rigid formulas, achieving subtle variations in each color family through repeated mixing and gradation of the dyes. In the tradition of patchwork, the quilts are entirely pieced. Contained within the regularity of the overall grid structure, each 3-inch block is a separate vibrant, complex composition, dense with visual information.
Erin grew up with fabric and learned the fundamentals of sewing alongside her mother, a versatile artist and creative role model. Her dyeing and construction methods are self taught.
