Gale Gibbs

Gale Gibbs

"I make art that explores the "inside out" of life. The exploration makes the journey."

Gibbs has always been an artist searching for the fragmented snapshot that is capable of touching archetypal places in her mind. She searches for images that can be at once humorous, forbidden, uncomfortable, and familiar. Her images can appear as if choreographed or as personal theater, poetic verse, harsh reality, or heavenly feeling. Her work combines the ''real'' and the abstract, creating a personal landscape.

Drawing and painting allow Gibbs to explore technique, texture, and image on a moment-by-moment basis. Drawing includes a variety of media, including pencil, charcoal, and pastel, but can also work well with acrylic, watercolor, and oil paint. Sometimes, collage is also part of the composition. Painting is a process of constant reinvention until the piece is "done."

Gibbs has had courses in drawing, printmaking, painting and design. She earned a BFA from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1989. She also studied at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where she was a teaching fellow. She has participated in a number of solo, group, and juried exhibitions throughout the USA.
