You know how there are moments when something about the landscape grabs your attention? It might be a fleeting moment, but it's long enough to make you aware you that are connected to something bigger. It is these moments that Jacque Gouveia works to put on canvas. She likes to think of these moments as nature's embrace.
When painting, Gouveia only works with one color at a time. She does not squeeze out multiple paints onto her palette. Gouveia mixes and works with the one color she needs, cleans her palette, and then mixes the next color. This keeps her colors fresh and clean and allows her to move the painting in the direction it wants to go.
Jacquie Gouveia is a completely self-taught painter. She spent years painting on her own and creating smaller plein air landscapes. This process and self-discipline gave her the best education on light and color. She built upon this knowledge and began creating larger, more abstract landscape paintings, continuing her focus on color and simplifying her compositions.
