Jane Pellicciotto

"I make meditative pieces that play opposites off of one another. A little organic and a little industrial. Smooth and rough. Feminine and strong. Embodying the contrasts found within us all. Delightfully imperfect, leaving some story still to tell. "

The graphic designer in Pellicciotto wants to plan and make order, while the artist in her wants to play with the random scraps of silver that accumulate on her bench. She is intrigued by metal's unforgiving yet malleable qualities, as well as the idea that fire, saws, hammers, and drills are used to create such delicate and personal objects.

Using simple tools and traditional techniques, Pellicciotto hand fabricates each piece of jewelry one at a time. Her process might include working from sketches, using computer-drawn images, or simply playing with what's there. She might turn a piece of driftwood into an elegant pendant or make a tiny frame for a miniature collage. What doesn't work out is melted down for a future piece.

As a graphic designer for 25 years and a lifelong crafter, Jane Pellicciotto considers jewelry design to be a perfect fit. New to metalsmithing, Pellicciotto works from a home studio and continues to absorb the expertise and wisdom of a host of jewelry designers at Multnomah Arts Center and Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon.
