Kyle Hawke has always been fascinated by the natural world. He tries to capture movement in his work, whether it be a tower of giraffes galloping across the African savanna or an object swept away in the wind.
Kyle Hawke bends and carves wood by hand. All of the flowing lines in the work are bent freehand without the use of molds or forms. The organic quality of the work can be attributed to this technique. The carved elements are created by using a variety of hand and power tools. Some pieces are finished solely with satin oil or lacquer and others combine painted surfaces with natural wood.
Kyle Hawke is a primarily self-taught artist. He has always had a close relationship with wood because his father is a master carpenter. Many of the techniques Hawke uses have been invented and developed in his studio.
