Laurel Marie Hagner and Glassometry Studios

Laurel Marie Hagner

"My passion lies in creating art that pays homage to the natural world. From whimsical to wondrous, powerful to passive, stunning to somber, the ever-changing moods that unfold with each moment are infinite. The movement and luminosity of glass is perfect for giving sculptural life to these reflections. The process demands flexibility, patience, and a love for constant change, just as nature does. "

Laurel Marie Hagner's artwork is a world of dancing color and light. Inspired by stunning beauty and nature's complexity, she communicates her innermost thoughts through the use of hot colored glass. The process and relationship to molten glass is vital to Hagner's expression, due to its challenges, fluidity, and luminosity. Viewers are rapt by Hagner's use of color, light, movement, and emotion.

Hagner's work is blown and sculpted glass. She utilizes ancient methods of gathering, blowing, shaping, and sculpting hot glass into works of art, both designed and improvised. Other processes include cutting, grinding, and polishing. A team is required for larger, more complex works.

Laurel Marie Hagner earned a BFA cum laude in sculpture from Northern Kentucky University. She has studied glass at Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School, and Centro Studio Vetro in Venice, Italy. She has taught at Pratt Institute and Pacific Northwest College of Art, and served as Art Glass Chair at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon. She worked as a project manager at Savoy Studios and has completed private and public commissions nationally.
