Melanie Casey creates feminine, detailed jewelry using traditional metalworking techniques and wax carving. She strives to tell a story and inspire with each piece she creates. She finds inspiration in many places, ranging from vintage and antique jewelry to natural elements like leaves and flowers. Many of her color pairings are pulled straight from nature.
Melanie Casey usually begins her creative process with a gemstone and a sketch pad. Once the design is on paper, she will begin the process of wax carving. Since Casey works with many uniquely cut, one-of-a-kind gemstones, she carefully carves a setting specifically for the individual stone. Once the wax design is complete, the piece is cast in 14k gold and the gemstones is set.
Melanie Casey considers her jewelry education to be a self-directed and ongoing study of the art. She began as a self-taught artist, then sought out training in order to expand her skills. Over many years, Casey has trained in wax carving, stone setting, metalsmithing, and gemology at programs with Mass College of Art and through apprenticeships from masters in the industry.
