Michael McDougal

"I love glassblowing. To me the craft is as important as the art, so I spend as much time perfecting skill and technique as I do in the creative process. It's an astoundingly versatile medium, and has an inherent music in it. Working with it in molten form is rhythmic, more of a dance than a process.

Glass artist Michael McDougal creates fluid, original designs in glass, incorporating his remarkable sense of form and color into every piece. All of McDougal's work possesses a spare elegance of line. The viewer is able to understand the liquid quality of hot glass as McDougal draws the glass twist of a handle in space or creates the asymetrical balance of a lovely pitcher.

Michael McDougal has studied at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York and at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. In addition, McDougal learned traditional glass processes in the glass furnaces of Murano, Italy.

Artistic Advisor Michael Monroe has said of McDougal's beautiful work, the artist "has captured the essence of molten glass in a moment of frozen elegance."
