Miriam Carter has been creating unique felted wool hats for more than twenty years. She transforms hand-dyed merino wool into felt using only water, pressure, and agitation. These techniques take advantage of wool's natural qualities, encouraging the microscopic hooks along each fiber to join together like Velcro. The resulting fabric is dense, sturdy, and flexible. After creating the felt, Carter uses antique wooden hat blocks to shape the fabric into beautiful works of art to wear.
