If the original art of Nathalie Guez transcribes the amusing perspective with which she perceives life, the elegance of her works reveals her love and respect for human beings and the world. Her symbolic approach gives her work its evocative power and leaves it open to interpretation.
For Guez, ideas come from many sources. Some represent designs that she has woken up seeing and knows she must realize. Other ideas come from commissions—as Guez is working, surplus ideas arrive and she explores as many angles as possible. She often begins by drawing a design on life-size paper, then creates patterns for each piece of the design. Her work is in constant reinvention.
Trained as an architect, Nathalie Guez began creating furniture as a hobby, learning techniques from an Israeli sculptor while working in an architecture office in Israel. She now lives and works in Montreal. Her work has been exhibited at SOFA New York and Art Palm Beach in 2012, and SOFA Chicago and Santa Fe in 2011. Based on her artistic skills, Guez was chosen to design sculptural lines for American furniture manufacturers.
