Peri Enkin

"I feel the world...wild and beautiful and messy. With hands in clay, I am a maker, a lover of flowers, islands, and beaches. I dig in for freedom, invite kindness, and choose to generate peace. Art is both simple and complex. I welcome you to enjoy the elegance of handmade clay vessels with me. "

Contemporary ceramic artist Peri Enkin is fascinated with the translucent qualities of porcelain, how it captures and spreads light, and how textures deliver vessels of enduring beauty. Her studio looks out onto a tropical garden with ever-changing ocean views on the Big Island of Hawaii, a place full of inspiring patterns of movement and flower and garden motifs.

Working primarily in porcelain and porcelaneous stoneware, Enkin's pieces are hand thrown on the potter's wheel, then carved and enhanced with colored slips and glazes to reveal intricate patterns. They are fired twice and sanded smooth.

Peri Enkin grew up in a family that surrounded her with a love of handmade creative arts. She studied ceramic arts, dance, and education in college. For many years, she taught courses on the creative process, and later, happily returned to her own studio practice with a passion for the ongoing adventure clay provides.
