Robert Siegel

Robert Siegel Studio

"As a designer-craftsman, the clean lines of my pieces are deliberate. Through my work, I aim to create an aesthetic that is based on utility, harmony and exposed structures to bring about a contemporary take on everyday objects. "

Robert Siegel believes there is something special about handcrafting an object--the satisfaction that comes from creating something from start to finish, the ability to connect with the process--an idea that is mostly lost in this time of mass production. He attempts to keep the traditions of porcelain-making alive in his studio in Los Angeles.

Siegel uses a variety of production techniques in his studio, including wheel throwing, hand building and slip casting. He fires his porcelain to cone 6 in an electric oxidation kiln.

Upon graduating from Miami University of Ohio in 2006 with a B.F.A. in ceramics, Siegel traveled to Jingdezhen, China, the birthplace of fine porcelain, to complete two artistic residencies at Jackson Li's Sanbao International Ceramic Village and Caroline Cheng's Pottery Workshop.
