Vicki Reed

"I pay careful attention to the quality of light and the feelings that it evokes."

Vicki Reed's goal is to create an image that can transport her viewers to a place where they might find a moment of calm. She hopes that viewers can feel the dampness of the fog or experience the quiet of the moment. Reed uses vintage, pinhole, and plastic toy cameras to capture her evocative images. She loves exploring alternative processes, including lith, hand coloring, and encaustic as well as numerous cameraless techniques such as lumen and cyanotype.

Reed's black and white photographs are printed in her wet darkroom on fiber-based paper and are selenium toned for archival presentation.

Born and raised in Maine, close to lakes, mountains, and the ocean, Reed developed a love for the landscape. Now living in Wisconsin, she continues to capture the natural world during hikes and kayak outings. A former newspaper photographer and magazine art editor, Reed's work has been widely exhibited and published, and has won numerous awards, including a purchase award from the Racine Art Museum.
