About this Artist

Heidi Daub

"My paintings evolve from an introspection, and are like poems to me, coming out of an awareness, a sense. This remembering is where I go in my creative work. There is a surrender, and a giving reverence to the natural world. By opening to this reception, I am attempting to find form and movement to express what we cannot describe, but we feel; like divine, the deep forest place, water's essence, or the complexity and simplicity of love."

Heidi Daub has created a style that is singularly hers. She has assimilated the characteristics of Modernism so completely to her own artistic purposes, she seems to have come to it naturally. Her ability to translate personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings into artful images that are at once rich in poetic associations and probing in enigmatic content are what make her paintings memorable and worth seeking out.

Daub's work is rich in color, hues emanating from multiple layers of paint. Often, a color is brought out from underneath by way of scratching, drawing, or scraping the top layer. Beginning with a thought or feeling, the artist attempts to open herself to allow the painting to evolve without a preconceived structure. She often writes as she paints, and the writing often informs the painting.a

Daub graduated in 1982 from Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts. Exhibiting her paintings regionally since 1987. Daub has lived and maintained a studio in Maine since 1984, and has exhibited her paintings in solo and group shows throughout New England, most recently being represented through Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay, Maine. Her work is housed internationally in both private and corporate collections.
