Art Glass Sculpture

Blown glass amethyst disc with a transparent gray edge. This is a large rondel, or disk, with two transparent colors fading toward each other with a band of clear glass between. After the rondel is blown and slumped flat, black threads of cane are laid on top in a spoked pattern and fused to the surface. The piece is then fired again onto a plaster mold to give it almost a machined look with incised lines patterning the surface. A metal stand is then welded to fit the glass giving it a clean, sleek look. Steel is clear laquered to prevent rusting.
