Galazzo Glass

"My work is a celebration of color. "

Glass artist Barbara Galazzo enjoys melding light and color into a kaleidoscope of movement. Having been a ballet dancer for 16 years, her work reflects the discipline, precision, and artistry of a ballerina. Color and pattern leap across the glass, balancing passion and inspiration in delicate harmony.

Galazzo's inspiration comes from vivid colors, patterns in architecture, textiles, shapes, and even her daughter's drawings. After so many years, she is still in awe of the possibilities inherent in glass.

The artist's "Collage" series employs precise cutting to produce harmonious patterns. Depth is achieved by layering up to eight colors of glass, resulting in work that combines hundreds of cut pieces. Additional designs are tediously sawed from the glass or kiln-carved (a technique in which glass is fused over a relief to give the appearance of being carved) into the glass for even more dimension. Through her years of making glass, Galazzo has found it is the attention to design and detail in finishing a piece that sets a true artist's work apart.
