Blue Ridge Fall Colors

Art Glass Sculpture

Created by Amanda Taylor
The artist uses several different techniques to achieve her version of the natural landscapes all around. Beginning with a "blank canvas" of glass (some with a background of mountain silhouettes), she decides the placement of the foreground layers and trees. The trunks are pre-fused glass powder components. All the tree branches are made from glass rod that the artist pulls into very thin branch like shapes using a torch flame. Once the branches are pulled, they are arranged onto the tree trunks. Custom color combinations of crushed glass are then placed as the ground and leaves within the landscape. The glass panel was fired three times in a glass kiln to create a sense depth within the piece. The glass piece is unique and etched signed by the artist in one of the corners of the piece. The semi-transparent quality of the glass is emphasized when placed in a lighted cabinet or in front of a window on a deep window sill.
