Justin Hunting

Wesley Justin Hunting

"I think the greatest quality of the glass medium is not its inherent shimmer and beauty, but its infinite potential in terms of form and design. With this in mind, I strive to create the most unique and original forms that I can possibly imagine. "

Justin Hunting believes that any object, no matter how simple, can be transformed into a complex and interesting new form. This being the central theme in his work, Justin uses traditional glassblowing techniques and styles to create sculpture that is truly extraordinary.

Hunting will typically start a new piece by first blowing a series of traditional glass forms covered with his distinctive surface designs. He then picks a pair of these vessels, cuts them into sections, and brings all the new surfaces to an optical polish. Then, through a process of ultraviolet lamination, he assembles the pieces into his final vision.

A second-generation glass artist, Hunting received the bulk of his training in his early teens from his father, master artist Wes Hunting. He then received formal training at Ripon College in Wisconsin and Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Hunting works in tandem with his father at their studio in central Wisconsin.
