Art Glass Sculpture
Created by Susan Bloch
Four people in turmoil become peaceful in this art glass. They are family, community or any other relationship. The piece represents the power of connection. Turning it in the stand allows viewing from other directions. Sand-carving and fire-polishing are the main processes used to create it. Cutting rubber resist with an Exacto knife opens areas to be shaped. Controlling the flow of silica carbide through a nozzle gently removes the glass. Focusing the abrasive repeatedly over areas of the glass develops form. Fire-polishing in a kiln creates the gloss surface. The smooth glass surface is the front. The deeper carved areas of the glass are the back. Clean the glass with a cotton lint-free or microfiber cloth. Warm water or rubbing alcohol is best.
