Go With the Flow 1

Art Glass Sculpture

Created by Helen Rudy
This piece is an exploration of going deep and creating thick, cast glass pieces within the confines of a box (or dam, in this case). Hand-cut glass is layered in a kiln and sandwiched together within a dam. The artist deliberately places the glass to allow gaps, ensuring that when the glass melts, it will flow within the box to create distorted elliptical stripes. Tiny air bubbles trapped within the layers add a crystal-like sparkle. The glass is 2" thick and remains in the kiln for about five days to ensure it's properly cooled down to room temperature.

The edges are cold worked with a hand diamond polisher to a smooth and clear finish. The letterbox style stand has a powder-coated chrome finish and is nice and heavy to accommodate the glass structure. Signed by the artist.
