Murrini Landscape

Art Glass Sculpture

Created by Lisa Becker
This contemporary piece is inspired by the block-like view of aerial landscapes.

Using a modern twist on centuries-old glass techniques, the piece is made by hand-pulling hot glass into long rods. Each rod contains a unique concentric circle design inside. Once cooled, the rods are nipped into thousands of individual pieces, called murrini, ranging from .0625" to .5" diameter. They are meticulously pieced together and fired again at 1500 degrees.

After firing, the glass levels to approximately .25" thick and is smoothed with a series of diamond grit pads to ensure a professionally finished edge. The sculpture can be displayed from the satin-smooth side or the more glossy, lustrous side.

Dimensions below are for the glass panel and the stand. Glass panel measures 11"W, 17"H.
