Globe Licorice Stick Vase

Art Glass Vase

(ID: A60053)
Created by Tracy Glover
Handblown using a traditional Venetian glassblowing technique called "a cane" (pronounced "ah cahnay") in which the glass is pulled by hand into long canes of luminously colored glass the diameter of licorice sticks, and after cooling, chopped into random lengths. The chopped canes are arranged in an eccentric pattern on a cast iron plate, and reheated until they fuse together into a vibrantly striped single sheet. The sheet is then rolled up and attached to the end of a blowpipe, to be ballooned by the artist's breath into its final curvaceous form.

Comments about Globe Licorice Stick Vase:

One of my favorite pieces in my glass collection. I have it displayed on a white living room cocktail table. The multi-colored piece looks especially captivating sunlit. The warm violet and orange bands really sparkle in the light. All the colors appear brighter and deeper in natural light vs artificial light. In the photo of this piece, it appears as if there are metallic bands, but those bands are actually a slightly green tinted white (celedon). There are also bands of very light violet. In all, an exquisite piece that brings cheer to a room.
