Licorice Stick Barrel Vase

Art Glass Vase

(ID: A16196)
Created by Tracy Glover
Handblown using a traditional Venetian glassblowing technique called "a cane" (pronounced "ah cahnay") in which the glass is pulled by hand into long canes of luminously colored glass the diameter of licorice sticks, and after cooling, chopped into random lengths. The chopped canes are arranged in an eccentric pattern on a cast iron plate, and reheated until they fuse together into a vibrantly striped single sheet. The sheet is then rolled up and attached to the end of a blowpipe, to be ballooned by the artist's breath into its final curvaceous form.

Comments about Licorice Stick Barrel Vase:

I purchased this piece as a companion piece to the Globe Licorice Stick Vase. The cool color scheme is a great contrast to the warm color scheme of the Globe vase. This multi-colored striped Barrel vase is fascinating to look at when sunlit, as the light shining through the different bands of colors almost creates a kaleidoscope effect. In all, a piece that will add a cheery note to any room, especially one with a lot of sunlight.
