Bauhaus Ellipse

Bold and vibrant, this blown glass sculpture is created using the demanding cane technique. Patchen composes hundreds of rods of colored glass into a mosaic, fuses them, rolls them onto a blowpipe, then begins the blowing process.

This Ellipse is composed of dozens of colors which at first glance appear random, although the composition is actually carefully curated and intentionally designed. Patchen's Ellipse series sculptures all have a flattened profile and are double- or triple-encased in clear glass for great depth, optics, and stability. As each piece is handmade, colors and patterns will vary.
