Gray Thread Foglio

Art Glass Vessel

(ID: A93978)
Created by David Patchen
One of a Kind
This spectacular blown glass vessel from the artist's Foglio series is created using the challenging murrini technique. Patchen uses both hot and cold glassworking processes to create hundreds of patterned glass tiles, composes them into a mosaic, then fuses them together and begins the blowing process.

Crisp details and vibrant colors are hallmarks of Patchen's work - the result of his technical and creative mastery. This one-of-a-kind piece features murrini created from threads of grey, gold, daffodil and cherry over white glass with random windows in aquamarine and lime. Tens of thousands of these precisely-spaced threads provide a fine texture that contrasts with the transparent windows. This sizable sculpture has great presence and a sleek, flattened profile. It is double-encased in clear glass for depth, optics, and stability.

All of Patchen's pieces are stable with gently flared, satin-finished bottoms. While Museum Wax is recommended for added security, for ultimate stability, this piece may be purchased with a permanently bonded clear glass base. Optional base is 5" x 5".
