Hearing the Sea

Bamboo Sculpture

Created by Charissa Brock
This piece started out as living bamboo culms in a bamboo grove in Portland, Oregon. The bamboo was gathered by the artist and carefully processed using traditional techniques to create long narrow strips. Hearing the Sea is a shell-shaped table top sculpture created from three layers of traditionally prepared "Tiger" bamboo strips. It comes from a series of work exploring the shell or spiral shape.
