About this Artist

Kathy Wegman

"It's a great deal of fun to find a thrown-away object from a secondhand store and turn it into something people can chuckle at."

Kathy Wegman uses 450 different colors of seed beads to transform everyday objects into works of art. She glues individual strings of beads to other people's discarded objects--roller skates from the Salvation Army, a lunch box from the local secondhand store. Her general policy is "the brighter, the better." Beaded art entered Kathy Wegman's lfe when she collected Native American beaded objects for Things, Things, and Thing, her import shop in Iowa City, Iowa.

Beaded art entered Kathy Wegman's lfe when she collected Native American beaded objects for Things, Things, and Thing, her import shop in Iowa City, Iowa.

After awhile they began making their own art, inspired by the beads themselves--bright, shiny things with the power to transform a mundane object into a thing of wonder.
