Confetti Bowl Prototype
Created by Vaughan Nelson
This free-form slab-built bowl is a prototype of an idea the artist is working on. Designed as a decorative accent, this bowl is functional as a fruit bowl. The outside pattern is achieved by laying down paper circles and then coating the entire surface with colored slip. When the slip dries, the circles are removed leaving the circular shapes that are then painstakingly glazed. The inside is done in the reverse. Circular stencils are used to create the outline of the circles. Slip is painted into the patterns and the stencil is then removed leaving the colored circle shape on the surface. The piece is then completely dotted to achieve the piece you see before you.
