Blackbird Candle Stick
Created by Amy Goldstein-Rice
Each piece is fired to cone 04 and is made by a technique of altering wheel thrown shapes. Then additions of hand-built shapes are attached to form legs, tail and other details of the animal or human form. The sculpting of the features are done entirely by hand, using modest tools. Surface decoration is achieved when textural marks are infusive with layering of engobes, slips, and commercial underglazes. Many different brush sizes are used to achieve the varied surface treatments. Each piece is unique and made one at a time. Expect variations in attitude and posture.
