This "Chameleon Jar" is raku fired and can not hold liquid. It was thrown on the potters wheel and the animal was then handbuilt while the clay was still moist. The raku firing causes the clay to turn black from the carbon and glazes to become iridescent. The artist chose to highlight specific parts with glaze while leaving the animal raw clay to enhance the animal's environment. She enjoys the raku process which always gives great surprises when fired.
