Informal Balance Mirror
Created by Rod Hemming
This piece is made from 2.25" square tiles that are slab rolled. The background of each tile has a subtle texture. Each pair of tiles has a matching drawing that is carved into them while still wet. They are then bisque fired at cone 04. Each tile is individually colored with underglazes. A clear glaze is applied, and the tiles are re-fired at cone 05. Once all tiles are fired, they are laid out and adhered to a handmade frame that is painted by the artist. Individually signed and numbered as in the English ceramic artist's tradition.
