Small Yellow Circle Mug
Created by Vaughan Nelson
This microwave and dishwasher safe mug features a circle pattern on the outside. This pattern is created by applying paper cutouts to the mug before it is bisque fired. A colored slip is then added to the entire outside of the piece. Once the slip has dried, the decals are carefully peeled off leaving the pattern below. The piece is then fired for 12 hours and allowed to cool for another 12. Once out of the kiln, the large circles are dotted and the small are painted in with blue and then dotted. The final stripe pattern is added and the rest of the piece is then finished off and fired for a second time resulting in the piece you see here. Each one will be slightly different due to the way they are made.
