This is another in the artist's series of "Neighborhood" plates, inspired by city views. As in mosaic work, the artist places colored porcelain squares, like tesserae, on to the liquid clay base, then slathers more black slip over the whole plate to cover. Next comes the exciting part of the process, when the artist very gently shaves the black film off the squares, creating an effect like city windows at night. The underside is unglazed, and there are holes in the foot for a wire hanger (not included). This may be used with food as a serving platter. Hand wash.
