Plate for Anjin
Created by Catherine Satterlee
The wonderful 1980s mini-series Shogun was an inspiring introduction for many Americans, including this artist, to the rich culture and history of Japan. Anjin was the name given to the English navigator by the Japanese when his ship was wrecked on the rocky shores of 17th Century Japan. The striking design of carved white squares on a rich dark brown background is reversed on the back. Display on a plate stand or credenza or hang it on the wall. There are holes in the foot for a wire hanger (not included). For decorative use. Handwashing is recommended.
